Signature Capture Won't Update Elements

I'm trying to use an UpdateElement service in a signature capture controller, but nothing seems to happen on the page. I created another button that only calls UpdateElement exactly as I have it in the signature capture controller and that works just fine. Is UpdateElement not implemented for signature capture controllers?

The signature controllers should be able to use UpdateElement. Task 11397 has been created to address this bug.
